Brooklyn Sunburn - Teen Daze

Brooklyn Sunburn - Teen Daze

Teen Daze gives us a sneak peak to his May 22nd LP, All of us Together. This track is vintage TD with the lo-fi chillwave sound. The crisp electronic notes kiss the ear drums with the classic laid back style of the Vancouver artist. This time however we see the vocals of Steph Thompson gracing the track. Adding a dynamic layer that allows so much more creativity to become apparent in this mix.

This is a very exciting time as the concept for his last album was actually C.S. Lewis fiction novel "Out Of The Silent Planet". It will be very interesting to see the direction by which Teen Daze takes his music style. Here's a quote of his next inspiration on his new first ever full length album:
I came upon an old book at a thrift store called Utopian Visions, an encyclopedic volume of different views on what utopia might look like, which became a huge inspiration. Especially when considering the future of our world as it actually unfolds. We’re becoming more and more self-reliant, more and more separated from our communities. I wanted to make a record that sounded more synthetic but also inviting—this is futuristic music with a heart.”
As reported by The Fader. I am very much looking forward to this look on utopia. It's not 1984 anymore! Happy Listening.

We Must Go On - Pretty Lights

We Must Go On - Pretty Lights

You can definitely tell where Pretty Lights got his origin and it is for sure Hip-Hop. We must go on possesses some sexy some sexy bass tones, hip hop swagger and a hook that is hauntingly beautiful. This track will ring in your ear drum for the nights to come. The song is actually an homage to his own name Pretty Lights. It explains the origin of the name and is inspired by how any moment can be an inspiration of beauty.

Wise words indeed beauty is all around us, you just need to slow down enough to take notice. The Denver based musician has multiple album for sale by donation at his website. I highly recommend you take a trip on over and support a hard working producer.

The Bad In Each Other - Feist

The Bad In Each Other - Feist

New video release by Feist! It's hard to not get excited by this Canadian beauty. This song comes off her fourth studio album, Metals. This is bound to find its way onto your playlist, one because it's Feist, two because its just that sweet of ear candy.

Feist explains her reactions to the video and motivations to shoot this style:
"We get a peek inside something real between people. Could be loss, longing and love. A lot of things which is about being a human being….It is told in a way where it opens up more aspects than it concludes. Maybe something we can’t grasp, but it points at it or touches it and leaves us with different kinds of emotions. You could think about the video like a song or a poem, and different people will connect to different things"
Indeed the poetic quality is something to be had when listening to anything Feist does. This is a masterpiece and depending on your perspective will change from one day to the next. It is also a constant reminder to look past other people flaws and focus on the positive. We are all human, let us spread some joy already. Keep Listening.

Sirens - The Pack A.D.

Sirens - The Pack A.D.

Fresh off their new Sirens video the Mint Record Duo are here to stay and seem to be honing in on their target. The two hail from Vancouver consisting of Becky Black (Singer/Guitar/Songwriter) and Drummer Maya Miller. Their garage rock sound gives way to a grungier dirtier sound than most other bands. I mean that in the best way possible, as their unique upbeat atmosphere gives this team a distinct edge. The duo is often compared to The White Stripes and other notable duos like the Black Keys. Some similarities and many differences as they try to separate themselves from that type of label. Sirens comes off the Unpersons album and it is a definite must listen.

The AD has no real meaning, after dinner? after dessert? after death? Becky Black describes it as it's explained differently every time in her interview with Dalby FM. Either way I am looking for some awesome work to come. This is some mighty fine music as the band dresses tracks in their new developed sound. This is my new fight club music. Happy Listening!

"Lord almighty, do they rock – in a gritty, unhinged, kind-of frightening manner." - Ben Rayner, Toronto Star

Bright Lights (Acoustic Live) - Gary Clark Jr.

Bright Lights (Acoustic Live) - Gary Clark Jr.

His style is definitely bluesy. His style is definitely rock and roll. He definitely draws from Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan even Lenny Kravitz. The Texas singer/songwriter gives us a beautiful twist on his original work Bright Lights. This comes off The Bright Lights EP and it is a must have. Consisting of 4 songs, you really do get a feel as to what Gary Clark Jr was put on this earth to do. Sharing the stage with the likes of Eric Clapton, at the Crossroads show, this man is an absolute monster with his axe. It is absolutely no wonder that Rolling Stone Magazine called him "The Best Young Gun" in their 2011 April issue.

This song is a song he wrote about New York City. Many artist have given their renditions about the big apple and Clark's version is true to his soul and flair of his musical style. Get a free copy of Bright Lights, from his website. The melodic hymns and the raw power of Clark's voice enchants any vinyl canvas it touches. Seriously, happy listening.

"If you haven't heard of him hurry up and google before you're late because he's SO special" - Alicia Keys

UPDATE:
Posting the original so you can get the contrast! Different feel for a different atmosphere. Also check out his SPIN Session. Live acoustics, I am there.

Summer Waves - Max Buzuk

Summer Waves - Max Buzuk

Today's daily sound comes from a member of the Convex Collective. If you do not know, they are a group of DJs and Producers that are based in the South of England. The Collective is aimed at increasing awareness of experimental electronic music, a much appreciated collective.

Max Buzuk gives us the track Summer Waves which is a blend of nostalgia and summer fun. Kind of reminds me of Places by Shlohmo a little bit. Keep making .wav's Max Buzuk! Happy Listening!

Mask - Chromatics

Mask - Chromatics

This is a 2007 release off of the album Night Drive. In 2007 I was just starting University and finding what it meant to be an adult, I was of course wrong. This is the music that drives me through though and quite fitting since this is some kush driving music. The backing synths definitely gives me a YACHT dystopia vibe entirely. The Portland Oregon band features Ruth Radelet (Singer), Adam Miller (Guitar), Nat Walker (Drummer) and Production by Johnny Jewel.

They are set to release their album Kill for Love early this year. This is their second release since their 2007 album Night Drive, so look out for some new sound as the band develops into its own stride. This is set to be release on the label Italians do it Better. Pretty excited to have 2012 run on 2011, even though 2011 was an amazing year in music. Happy Listening. Will keep you updated on release status.

Youth - Daughter (Love Thy Brother rmx)

Youth - Daughter (Love Thy Brother rmx)

The original track is like something out of a dream. The harmony, the pure lyrical magic of Elena Tonra. Love Thy Brother, as seen on Earmilk, give us this dubstep spin to an already amazing track. What is more awesome they are based in Montreal! The duo mainly keep the same heir to the song. The synthetic sounds reminds be of just being free and forever drinking Pepsi. This is one for the books, Happy Listening. Here is the original post as well of Daughter, enjoy =).

SSS - The Avett Brothers

SSS - The Avett Brothers

In terms of my folk/indie music span of knowledge, The Avett Brothers is as country as I will get. At first they were too country for me to enjoy but once they do grab you, you’ll be aching to get a banjo to jam along to their canny music styles. Their energy alongside their ability to make instrumental folk masterpieces with honest lyrics in this song speaks largely about them as an awesome band (don’t you agree ??!!). This song is from their 2004 album Mignonette which is not an album they are known for (greatly underrated) but personally I think it’s the best! Don’t be afraid to check it out with an OPEN mind and if you dislike the album, I’d love to hear why, so I can convince you otherwise ;).

Fun Fact: The album name ‘Mignonette’ is the name of a Yatch that sank in 1884. A crew of 4 men who were stranded on a life boat murdered and ate the cabin boy. The men were rescued and tried in a court case that would be one of Britain’s most influential criminal cases.

Gravel Pit - Matt Miller X Kilter (Flume rmx)

The raw mind blowing power of this track is nearly unexplainable, so I am not even going to try. Have a listen and you will know. Be one of the lucky few to study with Flume at the Ableton Liveschool. This track is so rough and intense it's really pointless for me to keep tal....

My Love is Building a Building - E.E. Cummings

{Sokova Photography}
My Love is Building a Building

My love is building a building around you,
a frail slippery house, a strong fragile house
beginning at the singular beginning of your smile

a skilful uncouth prison, a precise clumsy prison
building that and this into Thus,
Around the reckless magic of your mouth

my love is building a magic,
a discrete tower of magic and as i guess
when Farmer Death whom fairies hate
shall crumble the mouth-flower fleet
He'll not my tower, laborious, casual
where the surrounded smile hangs breathless.

E.E. Cummings
